CLASS NOTES

Sr. Geraldine “Geri” Eveler, CCVI, '48 IWHS, '84 MA celebrated her 60-year anniversary as a Sister of Charity of the Incarnate Word in May. She has recently retired to the Village at Incarnate Word and has stayed active within the community. Before retiring, she taught for 31 years in Missouri, Texas, Illinois and in Mexico City. She served nine of those years as a principal. After teaching, she spent 12 years in Parish Ministry. She also led seven pilgrimages to the Holy Land.
In a note to the Office of Alumni Relations, Sr. Geri wrote: “One more thing, I have been arrested – for civil disobedience – I crossed ‘the line' unto the School of the Americas at Fort Benning, Ga., a few years ago. I wasn't charged but given a ban on entering the property for five years. I was back after five years, but didn't cross the line.”

Edwina Anne Riley Ohlrich '49 BS celebrated 60 years of marriage to her husband, John, in May.

1950s

Carol Crozier Keller '55 IWHS, '58 BS, M.Ed. '87 is retired and volunteers for several organizations, after teaching elementary school for 35 years.

1960s

Dr. Diana I. Marinez '63 BA received Dean Emeritus status at Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.






Patricia Modenbach '63 IWHS, '68 BA received the Cowan Award for Excellence in the Teaching of English at the annual Two-Year College Association Southeast (TYCA-SE) conference. She is a language arts instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's Jefferson Davis Campus, where she is also active in the campus' faculty association.

Sr. Helena Monahan, CCVI, Ph.D., JD, '68 BA was inducted into the Incarnate Word Academy Hall of Fame in January. Sr. Helena was inducted for Spiritual Leadership. She is the chancellor at UIW.

1970s

Sr. Yolanda Tarango, CCVI, '73 BA, '96 L.H.D. (Hon.) has been appointed to the National Advisory Council of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as a representative of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). Her four-year term started Dec. 1.

Mary Nell Ohlrich Costello '74 BA and Lt. Col. Michael Costello '74 BA celebrated 35 years of marriage in May.

Dr. William Perez '78 BA and his wife, Sol, are anesthesiologists in New York City.

1980s

George Gaytan '81 BM has his music frequently played on Bob Webster's radio show. He is now known as “the guy who plays music to grow by.”

Regina Cerna '83 BSN has been promoted to senior executive hospital representative with Merck Pharmaceutical Company. Her territory includes San Antonio and Killeen.

Lisa Ginapp '85 BSN was awarded the 2008 Advance Practice Nurse of the Year by the Galveston Coalition of Advance Practice Nurses (GCAPN). She is also the president-elect for the 2009 Houston Area Nurse Practitioners.

Clark Stevens '87 BA is enjoying his life as a multi-faceted producer and performer. His most recent CD, “Hit the Floor,” reached No. 4 on the soul chart in Japan. He also performed at Fiesta. His band, Funk-O-Matic, regularly performs at Silo in Alamo Heights. The band's Web site is www.funk-o-matic.com.

1990s

Harry Jackman '90 BA has been going through formation into the Skete of Saint Anthony the Great (Eastern Rite). He was tonsured last September and in August will be ordained into the deaconate. He still works as a paramedic/pediatric specialist for the U.S. Public Health Service.

Linda Calvert Jacobson '90 BA hosted Spring Break art camps for children, and will be hosting summer camps again year this. In addition, she has also hosted adult drawing classes and marketing seminars. Her Web site is www.casadelinda.com.

Cristal Smith '92 BA was nominated for Best Recording Female Gospel Vocalist in San Antonio for the 2009 San Antonio Gospel Music Awards.

Kenyon Anderson '94 BA has joined TranSystems in Kansas City as their corporate marketing communications manager. She is responsible for all media relations, trade shows, advertising, Web site development and company-wide communications.

Dr. Paul Quesada '94 BS is a graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed his pediatric residency in Austin and is now a pediatrician in San Antonio.

Justin Rodriguez '97 BBA was re-elected to serve as the District 7 City Councilman for the City of San Antonio.

Dana Petri Leland '98 BBA received her Ph.D. in finance from Northcentral University in February.

Judy K. McCormick '98 BBA was recently hired as executive director of the San Antonio Education Partnership. She worked with USAA for 23 years before that and was previously the chairwoman of the board of directors for the San Antonio Educational Partnership.

William Moreno '99 BA graduated from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs and has accepted a senior policy position with the National Education Association. He collaborates with national Hispanic organizations to work on public education policy for K-12 and higher education.

2000s

Celeste Garcia '03 BA received her Master of Arts degree in education from UTSA in May.

Eloy Hernandez '04 BS received his master's degree in health care administration from Ohio State University and has moved back to Texas after accepting a fellowship with the Lone Star Circle of Care in Georgetown. The clinic provides families a place for their primary medical care, instead of using hospital emergency rooms. He is working with the clinic to have 75 percent of their appointments reserved for same-day appointments or sick visits.

Bryan Ortiz '07 BA produced “Four Minutes Till The End,” a science fiction film that won several awards in 2008 including Best Director and Best Film from the 48 Hour Film Project. The film was an official selection of Cinefestival in San Antonio and was recently screened at Filmapalooza at the Miami International Film Festival. The film also was screened at the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.

Yolanda Rios Rangel '04 BBA was named to the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame in the Civic Leadership category.  The award was presented March 28 at the Pearl Stables.

Rudy Jackson '04 BSN is working in the emergency center at University Hospital and is part of their current advertising campaign. His picture can be seen on the side of VIA buses in San Antonio.

Elida Perez '06 BA received her master's degree in criminal justice administration from Virginia College - Online in December.

Diane Bryant '07 M.Ed. is training to become a foster parent for 11- to 18-year-old children. She also published a book of poems called “Jehovah's Way” and is learning Chinese.

Krystal Antwine '07 BBA earned her master's degree in human resources management from Ashford University in September 2008.

Amanda Ormsby '07 BA was an active volunteer for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation “Race for the Cure” that took place in San Antonio in April.

Vanessa Ann Peché '94 BA and Robert Harrison Gleason were married on May 16.

Shanna Byrd '99 BA married Darren Jackson on April 4 at HOPE Center Church in San Antonio. They plan to continue residing in Beverly Hills, Calif., where Shanna is a filmmaker. She graduated with an MFA in Film Production from the America Film Institute in 2007.

Amaly A. Lopez '00 BA married Ernest C. Madrigal on March 14.

Elizabeth Williamson '00 BA is engaged to Charles Kriz and plans to be married Nov. 7.

Stephen Slattery '02 BA and Francesca Peyer were married March 7 on the UIW campus.

David Ross '03 BBA and Arely Hernandez '03 BBA met while they were attending UIW. On March 21, they were married and became another Cardinal Couple.

Angela (Rodriguez) Ferrer '06 BA and Jerry Ferrer were married in November 2008. Angela is self-employed as a personal shopper and consultant.

Joseph Alecozay '07 BA married Jennifer Barnaby on June 20 in Our Lady's Chapel at UIW. His mother is Susan Richardson Alecozay '07 MSN and his sister is Sarah Alecozay '09. His sister Celia will start at UIW this fall.

 

 

Amanda Ormsby '07 BA and Justin Bennett '04 BA plan to be married in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sept. 5.

Amanda Iris Pena '07 BA and Paul Lee Garcia III were married March 7.

Jose R. Media '09 MS and Melissa Gonzalez were married May 30 at the Chapel of the Incarnate Word.

Gabriela G. Sanchez '09 BS married Raul Z. Hernandez on June 6.

Mark Tackett '93 BBA is celebrating the birth of Eloise Christine who was born April 13.

Lydia Garrido Robledo '95 BBA, '97 MBA and her husband, Victor, welcomed their second child, Joaquin, in December.

Marjorie I. Morales '02 BA, '08 M.Ed. is happy to announce the birth of her daughter, Lorelai Sophia Aguirre, on Jan. 21.

Erika (Martinez) Burt '03 BA and her husband, Justin, are proud to announce the birth of their son, Benedict Joseph Burt. He is welcomed by his big sister, Bernadette Genevieve Burt.

Alfredo A. Felan '03 BBA and his wife, Stephanie, welcomed their first child, Noah Damacio, on Jan. 13.

Amy (Viator) Rodriguez '03 BA and her husband, Clint, celebrated the birth of their son Adam Jacob in November 2008.

Marcos Contreras '04 BA and his wife, Jorgie, celebrated the birth of their daughter, Liliana Grace Contreras, on June 2.
