MEET THE BOARD

Meet the BoardWilliam Moll

UIW Board of Trustees member William G. “Bill” Moll is chairman of Clear Channel Television, a division of Clear Channel Communications headquartered in San Antonio, Texas. His involvement with the university began in 1986 when, as president of KENS-TV, he was contacted by UIW President Dr. Louis J. Agnese Jr. and advertising executive Lionel Sosa to discuss an exchange of advertising time for scholarships to Incarnate Word College. Thus, a partnership and friendship was born. Incarnate Word College began advertising on KENS-TV and, in return, KENS employees were able to continue their studies. A year later, Moll was offered a position on the UIW Board of Trustees, but declined when a career move took him to New York City.

Moll joked that when he returned to town, he was greeted at the city limits by Agnese holding a sign that read “Bill Moll stop here!” This time, Moll accepted the trustee position. “Serving as a trustee is an extension of what I have done all my life,” Moll said.

Already a part of a culture of community service, Moll is now in the position as a trustee to be part of an institution that serves students. Moll finds satisfaction in serving a university where students find diversity as a way of life and where the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word have formed a community that “no matter what your faith or status in life, it is a place to grow your faith and reinforce your personal values.”

Moll said it has been exciting to see the campus grow from a quiet community of just 1,500 students to a thriving international campus serving more than 6,000. It has become a school that “reaches out to the community and in turn is embraced as well.”

“While Lou has been a catalyst for growth, energy, imagination and strategic direction, the partnership with the Sisters of Charity deserves kudos as well,” Moll said. “It is the Sisters and their service to the broader community that make Incarnate Word a great place to be. It is through them that every student is expected to give back and serve not only out of duty, but out of a sense of satisfaction. As a trustee, it is a privilege, a pleasure and an honor to serve among them all.”

Moll is originally from Sikeston, Mo. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in education from Southeast Missouri University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Married to Marilyn L. Moll, he has two adult sons, two daughters-in-law and three grandchildren. In addition to his service on the UIW Board of Trustees, he also is active in other civic organizations. His positions include chairman of the World Board of the USO, member of the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Zoo, trustee of the Broadcasters’ Foundation of America and vice president of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, USA, headquartered in Tucson, Ariz.
