For the past four years, the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO) at UIW and the Essilor Foundation have partnered with NISD to provide more than 2,000 free eye exams and eye glasses for NISD students. This year alone, the two organizations provided 10 days of eye examinations outfitting 640 students with eye glasses. Under the purview of Dr. James Chapman, assistant dean of clinical affairs, RSO students gain pediatric clinical experience through the partnership. “I would now estimate that we have provided around $125,000 in uncompensated eye and vision care for NISD students,” said Chapman. RSO hosts approximately seven of these events per year focusing on providing eye care to underserved NISD students.
