The University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) officially kicked off building renovations for UIW’s new School of Osteopathic Medicine at Brooks City Base on Nov. 7. Many dignitaries joined UIW President Dr. Louis Agnese, Brooks City Base President and CEO Leo Gomez and Board Vice Chairman Manuel Villa including San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor, City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran, Congressman Lloyd Doggett and other local leaders for a ceremonial flag raising on Brooks City Base.

“Last year, we set a goal to open a new medical school in San Antonio and today we are well on our way to achieving that goal,” said Agnese. “We raise the flag of the University of the Incarnate Word to show that we will continue the legacy that was created here decades ago by building another state-of-the-art facility that will train primary care doctors to serve San Antonio and underserved areas throughout South Texas.”

“Our mission is to bring new life and new opportunities to this beautiful campus, but we also have a responsibility to honor the history of this place,” said Villa. “Nothing could honor the Aerospace Medical Center more than this medical school; it is the perfect fit. We welcome UIW to our campus and we look forward to making new history together as we continue to transform this community.”
