IMG_9737UIW’s Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO) provided free eye exams to 60 preselected students from the Northside Independent School District (NISD) on April 29 at the UIW Eye Institute as part of an ongoing program to bring eye care to the underserved children of San Antonio. The patients included children between the ages of five and nine years old who failed their school vision screenings and do not have insurance or the ability to pay for comprehensive eye care. For many of the children, it was the first eye exam they had ever received.

RSO optometry students, under the direction of RSO faculty, provided eye examinations with Essilor Vision Foundation providing frames and lenses. Essilor Vision Foundation is a public, non-profit foundation based in Dallas, Texas that provides screenings, eye exams and vision resources to thousands of school-age children across the United States.
