The staff of the Rosenberg Sky Room presented a booth at the San Antonio Wedding Guide and Bridal Extravaganza at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center on Sept. 20. Of the 300 exhibitors, which included venues, caterers, entertainment, dress shops and bakers, the Sky Room won first place for Best Booth Design.
Sylvia Carrier, manager of the Sky Room, praised the hard work of the team of seven students she employs for making the booth a first-place winner. The award was $350 toward their next showing, which will be in January 2010.
She credits the success to their attention to service. “We were able to talk one-onone to make it more personable,” Carrier said. The team was able to gather more than 100 inquiries at the bridal show. In particular, the judges liked that the students were dressed in UIW colors. “We are representing the university first and foremost,” Carrier said. “I’m proud of these students.”
She spoke with several UIW alumni at the extravaganza who didn’t realize they were welcome to use the Sky Room to celebrate their events. Alumni even receive a discount because of their association with UIW. The Sky Room, which has a stunning 100-foot window view of the San Antonio skyline, can accommodate events ranging from 50-800 guests.
“This is your place even when you leave,” Carrier said.
